Virtually all of my career, I have employed a similar process i) formulate a strategy based on market dynamic and company growth objectives ii) innovate a concept, product, or service that is unique and fulfills the strategic goals and iii) develop a plan to implement the new idea that works for the customer, operationally, and financially.
I believe an extremely important component of strategic thinking is seeing things from all possible vantage points. It has been my experience that making those hidden connections between customer needs and the company capabilities, is where the spark for a truly innovative idea comes from. Also, by considering all disciplines, points of view, or aspects to a problem, you avoid pitfalls or traps that can kill something new. There is no doubt that one of my greatest joys is creating something that energizes customers and employees and provides for company growth.
